I am not clear what our
surname/family name "Kowlagi" denotes. It is my presumption that it
must be name of the village that is near Sangli in Maharashtra that we hail
from.
One of our forefathers was a
Swamiji, Sri Satyanidhi Tirtha, 19 th Pontiff of Uttaradi Math. He
was Pithadhipati for 21 Years , 9 Months , 4 Days. His Poorvasharama
name is given as Koujalagi Raghupatyacharya. In the same website of Uttaradhi Matha, it is also given
as Kauligi. It is again my presumption that
both surnames are same and is just a spelling variant.
Sri Satyanidhi Teertharu entered the
Brindavana on the tenth day of the bright half of the month of Margasheersha
near the "Nivrutti Sangam" where the river Krishna and Tungabhadra
join in the Kurnool District of Andhra Pradesh.
Shrisailam Hydro Electric Power Project would
have affected the Brindavana of Shri Sri
Satyanidhi Tirtha. Therefore. Shri Satyapramoda
Teertharu, got it dismantled and rebuilt it at Kurnool in the same
architectural model as those in the Nivrutii Sangam in 1984.
