# 004 Swami Sri Satyanidhi Teertha

I am not clear what our surname/family name "Kowlagi" denotes. It is my presumption that it must be name of the village that is near Sangli in Maharashtra that we hail from.

One of our forefathers was a Swamiji, Sri Satyanidhi Tirtha, 19 th Pontiff of Uttaradi Math. He was Pithadhipati for 21 Years , 9 Months , 4 Days. His Poorvasharama name is given as Koujalagi Raghupatyacharya. In the same website of Uttaradhi Matha, it is also given as Kauligi. It is again my presumption that both surnames are same and is just a spelling variant.

Sri Satyanidhi Teertharu entered the Brindavana on the tenth day of the bright half of the month of Margasheersha near the "Nivrutti Sangam" where the river Krishna and Tungabhadra join in the Kurnool District of Andhra Pradesh.

Shrisailam Hydro Electric Power Project would have affected the Brindavana of Shri Sri Satyanidhi Tirtha. Therefore. Shri Satyapramoda Teertharu, got it dismantled and rebuilt it at Kurnool in the same architectural model as those in the Nivrutii Sangam in  1984.

# 003 Is Kavalagi a village 15 KMs from Bijapur related in any manner to Kowlagi?

I have been searching for quite some time now for a village named Kowlagi. I assumed it should be existing somewhere in the southern parts of Maharashtra state. But I was not entirely surprised to hear from acquaintances that there is indeed a village by the name of Kowlagi near Bijapur. Then today when I was searching the net, I was thrilled to chance upon the exact reference in an very unlikely place - in a book on Sociology!! The name of the book is:

One can preview the book at:

Visited Bijapur on 13 Feb 2015 and located a village named KAVALAGI (instead of KOWLAGI as we spell it). There is just one Brahmin family living there whose surname is Kulkarni and also their Gotra is not Mouna Bhargava.

Understand that there are two more villages with the same name. One is 70 Kms from Bijapur and the other is in Gulbarga District.

Will try to visit these when time permits.

Introduction to Shri 1008 Shri Satyanidhi Teertharu:
Shri Satyanidhi Teertharu took over the responsibility of Uttaradi Matha and ruled the pontificate throne with great honour and remarkable distinction. He was formerly known as Kauligi Raghupathyacharya.
In order to explain the significance of Madhva Vaishnavism and Dvaita philosophy Shri Satyanidhi Teertharu toured extensively and visited important religious centers in South India. Shri Satyanidhi Teertharu met Shri Raghavendra Teertharu in Kumbhakonam.
Shri Satyanidhi Teertharu ordained sanyasa to Shri Sayananda Teertharu and Shri Gunanidhi Teertharu with an intention to propagate the Dvaitha Philosophy. Thereafter Shri Swamiji marched with his disciples towards the rivers Krishna and Tungabhadra. Though no direct evidence is available on his works, it is known that he has written "Vishnu Sahasranama Vyakhyana".
Shri Satyanidhi Teertharu ruled the Vendantha Samrajya with a remarkable distinction and his life was a saga of supreme spiritual achievements. Many people were uplifted with his guidance and blessings. He entered the Brindavana on the tenth day of the bright half of the month of Margasheersha near the "Nivrutti Sangam" where the river Krishna and Tungabhadra join in the Kurnool District of Andhra Pradesh.
Due to the construction of the Shrisailam Hydro Electric Power Project, the Moola Brindava of Shri Satyanidhi Teertharu situated at Nivrutti Sangam submerged in dam water. Shri Satyapramoda Teertharu Swamiji of Shri Uttaradi Matha wanted to save the Moola Brindavana of Shri Satyanidhi Teertharu which was to be affected under dam water  Shri Satyapramoda Teertharu went to the spot with his disciples and offered the pooja near the sannidhana of the Moola Brindavana for an hour and ordered the disciples to dismantle the Brindavana. Same has been rebuilt at Kurnool in the same architectural model as those in the Nivrutii Sangam.
When the disciples started to remove granite stone panels of Brindavana , they were surprised that they smelled the perfumes of Shri Gandha from the Moola Brindavana of Shri Satyanidhi Teertharu. It is very interesting to note that the disciples and swamiji found a saligram, Japamala and Counch (Kamandala). The Kamandala was full of crystal clear water, as if it had been filled up on that very day. Shri Satyapramoda Teertharu Swami and the disciples who attended in the dismantling work wondered at the divine power of His Holiness. He was such a great mystic and storehouse of penance. Shri Satyapramoda Teertharu swamy sprinkled the Kamandala water on the disciples.
After completion of dismantling work the structure was carried to Kurnool and reconstructed in the permises of the Uttaradi Matha in the same architectural model as at Nivrutti Sangam dring the year 1984.
